*Bring a change of clothes for the dance. You may dress in regular clothes or in a costume from any decade (1940's - 1990's), but no matter what you choose to wear, it should be nice (ie. slacks, ties, skirts, dresses). You may bring supplies to fix your hair after Beach Day, but please do not bring anything that plugs in (curlers, etc.).
*Students who would like to donate treats, snacks, or drinks for the dance will be paid $100 of 6th Grade money for their donations.
*Parents are welcome to pop in for 5- 10 minutes of the dance if they would like to watch one of our decade dances, but we do not recommend they stay for the whole dance.

Thursday
12:40 pm 6th Grade Auction
3:00 pm GarageBand CDs and Report Cards Distributed
*Please do not bring anything to school with you except a grocery bag to carry home the items your purchase in the auction. Gifts for your class, teachers, principal, etc. and a marker to have classmates sign something (like an autograph book or T-shirt) are also acceptable. All other items should remain at home.

I am excited for all that we have planned for the end of the year! Please remember to be on your best behavior and treat your classmates and teachers with kindness and respect. Students who choose to misbehave are choosing to be removed from activities. Remember that you are all almost 7th graders! I know you know how to make good choices. You are wonderful students! We are going to have a great last week!

Dance!!!

Our class is doing a dance at the end of the year. We are doing a 50's dance, 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's. Right now we are doing the 50's dance. I will tell you some moves that we've done today. There's this move called Rubber Legs. Rubber Legs is when you put your hands out and your palms, then you move them in a circle. While you do that you move your legs/knees in a circle just like your hands. I don't really like that move, but its funny. The other move I was going too tell you was the Speed Skater. The Speed Skater is when you put your right foot forward and your left foot back. Then you put your left hand in a fist and put it behind your back. With your other hand, you put it up in a fist then you move it up and down. While you're moving your arm up and down, switch your legs too. That's pretty much all I'm going to tell you. I'm exited too learn the other dances too!!

Golf Extravaganza!

On Friday we went to the Golf Extravaganza. There were all types of miniature golf courses. There was one that was like a football game. Another one was a candy course. It had licorice and gum drops. All the third graders on A and D tracks had to build their miniature golf courses with their parents. If you got a hole in one you got candy. There were all types of candy! All the sixth graders had a great time at the Golf Extravaganza.

Hortensio

Our class is doing a play called The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare. I am playing the part of Hortensio. Hortensio is a suitor of Bianca. Three guys want to marry her. The people who like her are Hortensio, Lucentio, and Gremio. I get disguised as a tutor for Bianca because I want some alone time with her. I have to wear this totally radical blond wig when I am disguised as a tutor. In the end, I go to a wealthy widow that has loved me a long time.

Uummm.....This week's spotlight thing...... Speed Stacks

This week we've been doing Speed Stacks. They are cups with three holes on top. First of all you have to place your hand on the timer. Then you start with the three, six, three stack. The three stack is just three cups put up in a pyramid, sort of. The six stack is just like it except it has three more cups. The next stack is just like the first. Once you finish stacking it up and down stacking it you continue to the six, six stack. It's the six stack with just two of the six stacks. When you're done with that you make the ten stack. You put two cups out, one normally going down, and the other has the mouth of the cup facing up. You stack up the leftover ten cups. Stack that down, place your hands on the timer, and you're done. Speed Stackers are supposed to improve your hand-eye coordination. They have designs for the cup. There are simple colors like red. There is the stack mat and timer. Apparently, they've made a mini version of it. The metal one is heavy, and the small blue one is light.

Jumping Stilts

Hi my name is Kara. I am about to tell you about Jumping Stilts or Power Risers. If you watch the video linked below you will see some tricks you can do on them. One of my favorite things about them is that you can jump over cars once you have more experience.

The Shrew Has Been Tamed

You were all amazing actors in our production of The Taming of the Shrew! I had so many compliments from teachers, staff, and parents on your performances. I am so proud of you! You should feel good about the work you put into the play. Congratulations!

Thank you again to the parents who helped with our cast party. It was a lot of fun and a great way to end our performance week.

Here are a few of the pictures from our performances. When our principal gives me the pictures he took, I will add more.

P.S. Many of you have not turned in your green Internet permission form to me, so I cannot publish your pictures. If you want your pictures included you need to return that form. If your parents have decided we can post your picture after all, let me know and I can give you a new form. If your parents do not want your pictures on our blog but you want copies of the pictures, send me an email.

Finding Costumes

I have no idea how I'm going to find a costume for the play. Hopefully my grandma still has the fancy sewing machine I cut my finger on. Other than the tight clothing and hot bright lights blinding you on stage, this should be a very fun, great play! I'm so exited!!!

P.S. I'm really not that exited I'm just hoping that Miss Blunt will only read the first paragraph I just wrote and vote me for the Oscar Award.
